Join Team Razor Sharp to Fight Domestic Violence | April 24/25

Razor Sharp is proud to be hosting this incredible event, April 24-25.

Join the Razor Sharp team by registering online or with one of the tri-fold brochures we have in each of the clubs.

You can elect to walk any time during the 15 hours of the fundraiser, but Team RS is focusing coverage on the first four hours -- 4-6 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, and the final two hours 5-7 a.m. on Saturday.

Your $15 registration fee will help support the many services, including food/shelter/clothing that the Women's Resource Center offers to women and children facing domestic violence. Note that online registration includes a small fee (less than $2) to cover the administrative cost of the event management site.

Please also consider asking your friends/family to pledge their support through your walk or by clicking through and registering a donation as a "virtual walker", even if they are unable to participate themselves!

We look forward to seeing you here from Dusk Till Dawn.

March Member of the Month, Jim Geiss

Jim "Chip" Geiss

Start living, or keep dying....

At the age of 54, I had to make this decision. After the loss of my sister in 2009, I fell into a depression and could not stop gaining weight. A visit to a wonderful new doctor in 2014 got me thinking differently, and I joined Razor Sharp last November.

I have been lucky to work with Personal Trainer Anthony Matoska to get me on the right track. In the first three months, I have lost 20 lbs, and my blood levels are all better than they have ever been. Not to brag, but my cholesterol is down to 130. Still at 400 lbs, I have the momentum and motivation to continue with my weight loss and body building.

All the staff and members at Razor Sharp treat me so well, they are definitely a part of my motivation. I spend an average of four days a week working out, including swimming, weights, walking on the track and using all the equipment. My trainer is a vital part of the entire experience.

Strategies from SPS Sports Performance & Razor Sharp Fitness for a Great Sports Season!

Importance of Seasonal Training
Off-Season Training – 3-6 times per week, focusing on:
  • Preparation for the season ahead to reduce likelihood/severity of injuries.
  • Improvements in strength, power, speed, agility, mobility, coordination and conditioning, along with identifying and correcting improper movement patterns that develop during the season.
  • Gradual increase in the intensity of activities and conditioning levels across the off-season period.

Pre-Season Training – 2-3 times per week over 6-8 weeks, focusing on:
  • Increase of intensity of workouts to near-competition level.
  • Refinement of sport-specific skills with the incorporation of sport practices or drills and ongoing sports performance training.

In-Season – 1-2 times per week, focusing on:
  • Sustenance of the increases in strength, speed, conditioning, or any other gains made during the off-season and pre-season periods.
  • Achieving peak athletic abilities during the season (including post-season tournaments).

Post-Season Training – 1-2 times per week over approx. 4 weeks, focusing on:
  • Active recovery to re-build following long periods of physical stress during the season.
  • Light leisure activities that are not specific to a sport, as a change of pace before the next period of more intensive training.
