March 6th is Dress in Blue Day for Colon Cancer Awareness

Get Blued! For Colon Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know colon cancer is the second leading cause of overall cancer deaths in the United States? But it doesn’t have to stay this way. Early detection through screening can dramatically reduce your risk. This means having your colon checked regularly starting at age 50, or sooner if you are at higher risk.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and Friday, March 6 is National Dress in Blue Day. Help slash these stats by joining the Colon Cancer Alliance’s Dress in Blue Day movement. Through this national campaign and their screening, research and patient support initiatives, we can knock colon cancer out of the top three cancer killers for good.

Visit www.ccalliance.org to learn more about colon cancer and how you can get involved. And don’t forget, screening saves!

Razor Sharp will be participating on March 6th, and encourage YOU to Dress in Blue, too. We'll be making information available and encouraging you to post pictures of yourself in your blue, along with your commitment to get screened!

Join TEAM RAZOR SHARP at the St. Patrick's 5K Run/Walk on March 14th

We had such a good time with the BeMine 5k for Valentine's Day, we decided to do it again!

So, be Wearin' the Green on Saturday March 14, starting off at 9 a.m. for the 2nd annual St. Patrick's 5K Run/Walk.

This fun themed run/walk starts at Jose’s BlueSombrero just down the street from the Washington Avenue club. The route follows the Pike River Pathway. It’s open to everyone, Irish or not! Every participant will receive a custom finisher’s medal, race swag, a goody bag, a free drink coupon and a free entry into our raffles.

This event is hosted by 5kevents.org, a Racine-based organization, and is the second leg of the 2015 Southeast Wisconsin Regional Endurance Challenge. What a great way to get back into your warm-weather running routine! This is a fun spring run/walk; however, for those interested in timing, the course will be timed.

Registration is $35 through March 8, 2015, then $40 through the day of the event. Register here. When you register, be sure to do so as part of Team Razor Sharp!

Volunteers are also needed for the day of the event and of course, event sponsors. For more information on becoming a volunteer or becoming a sponsor, e-mail for more information, call (877) 651-2440 or visit the event website.

Celebrate fitness and achievement with a festival flair, and kick off the holiday weekend by participating in Southeast Wisconsin’s only St. Pat’s Run!

Help Razor Sharp Member Johnny Clay Raise Funds for Downtown Racine Corporation

Do some good and have a BLAST!!!

Unlike other non-profits, Downtown Racine Corp. does not have diverse funding streams. It depends almost exclusively on voluntary contributions from local businesses and generous individuals to support its mission to attract and retain businesses, which in turn strengthen Racine County’s economy.

A portion of the Celebrities on Ice's sales, plus your generous tips, will directly support the revitalization of downtown and support its community events.

You may have seen Johnny around the club. Or on the cover of Sports Illustrated that time. Or hoisting that spiffy trophy up there.

But, you may not know how generous Johnny tries to be with his time in support of good causes. This Downtown Racine Corporation fundraiser is one example. And, by helping them out, he's giving back to Razor Sharp, too. With our Downtown club, we're members of the DRC -- which is working hard on behalf of us and all the other business owners there.

So, help us all out by donning some Wisconsin red and white, and dropping by Reefpoint Brew House on the evening of February 28. Giving to a good cause will rarely EVER be this much fun!!

February Member of the Month, Sharon Bellin

Sharon Bellin

Already halfway to reaching my first goal....

I came to Razor Sharp last September. I remember the day of the tour with my walker, I didn’t even want to see the whole facility because of weakness and pain. In a few short months, I have been able to trade my walker for a cane much of the time.

My goal was to lose at least 65 pounds and gain the strength needed for knee surgery. So I am going to a weight loss clinic and training with Ben Kempen for an hour twice a week.

I’m already about halfway to reaching my first goal of losing the weight and gaining strength for surgery. But after surgery and its physical therapy, I know I'll need more strength training.

From the very beginning, I have felt very comfortable at Razor Sharp. I like the friendliness of all the people that work here. I am sure all the trainers are like Ben, and adjust the training activities to your specific needs.

Thank you for choosing me as Member of the Month.

New Razor Spa Services Starting Soon: Acupuncture and Applied Kinesiology

Acupuncture Services begin Monday, February 23

We've had a number of requests for acupuncture services, and now they are here!

Look for Jocelyn Mitchell in the Washington Avenue club, at a table in the lobby area to take questions and set appointments. Of course, you are also welcome to call ( (262) 321-0200) to set a time with her.
Generally, appointments should be available:
Mondays 9a-6p, Tuesdays 9a-8p,
Fridays 9a-2p and Saturdays 9a-4p.

We'll give you all a formal introduction to Jocelyn once she starts to settle in, with a picture and biography! Until then, keep an eye open for her around the club and welcome her.

Applied Kinesiology Treatment Coming Soon

If you suffer from:

· Low back pain
· Headache
· Poor sleep
· Stress
· Poor posture
· Low energy
· Balance problems

Applied Kinesiology can reduce or eliminate your pain.

Treatments use a combination of manual muscle testing, trigger point massage, lymphatic massage, acupressure and nutritional advice to address pain that results from imbalances in alignment. While related to traditional chiropractic methods, Applied Kinesiology uses a different series of subtle manipulations to relieve painful imbalances.

Razor Sharp/SPS Sports Performance Trainer Tony Megna (CSCS, TFH IV, TRX) will very soon be taking appointments.

Watch for further information in the next couple of weeks as we finalize last details.

New Class Schedules, effective February 16th
